Year 6 competed in a 3 week ‘Come Dine With Me’ competition, where they had the opportunity to enhance their cooking skills, whilst responding to task requirements. On week one, pupils were challenged with making a starter which had to include pepper. We had peppers stuffed with mozzarella and pepperoni, and a roasted red pepper salsa. Round two saw a focus on main meals, where pupils were given the main ingredient of salmon. The recipes they came up with were sticky salmon stir fry and smoked salmon and cream cheese sushi. The final week, Dessert Week, involved pupils incorporating pineapple into desserts, which included a cheesecake and an upside down cake!
At the end of each session, the children scored the meals on appearance, taste and the use of the key ingredient. The winning menu was: red pepper salsa to start, followed by salmon and cream cheese sushi, with a pineapple upside cake for dessert. The children have had a great time over the last three weeks preparing their ingredients, cooking and eating. Well done to our winning team and to all of year 6 who can now put their cooking skills to the test over the half term break.
